Honeymoon Island Portraits on a Wild Barrier Beach

Honeymoon Island is what Florida’s coast looked like before the condos — four miles of undeveloped barrier island with sea oats, driftwood, osprey nests, and shorelines that shift with every tide. As a state park just off the Dunedin, Florida causeway, it stays raw, natural, and gloriously free of buildings in your background.

Amanda photographs relaxed family beach sessions, senior portraits, and engagement photos at Honeymoon Island year-round. Park hours shape the timing here, so check availability early and we’ll plan the light together.

Best Photo Spots on Honeymoon Island

Four miles of protected shoreline, a pine forest full of raptors, and a causeway made for sunsets — Honeymoon Island earns every visit.

The Main Beach

The park’s classic stretch near the main pavilions — soft sand, clear shallows, and easy access for families with little ones in tow.

The North Beach Dunes

Walk north and the island turns wild — tall dunes, sun-bleached driftwood, and shorebirds skittering along an empty tide line.

The Osprey Trail

A shaded trail through century-old slash pines where osprey and owls nest overhead — a green, woodsy contrast to the beach.

The Dunedin Causeway

Outside the park gates, the causeway’s sandy edges face west over open water — free to access and perfect for after-sunset light.

Getting to Honeymoon Island

  • About 30 minutes from Tampa — Curlew Road west through Dunedin to the causeway
  • Park entry is per vehicle at the ranger station; gates close around sunset
  • The main beach lots sit past the ranger station at the end of the park road
  • The Dunedin Causeway beaches outside the gate are free and open later
  • Summer weekends fill early — arrive ahead of the afternoon rush

While You’re at Honeymoon Island…

Downtown Dunedin

Craft breweries, golf-cart streets, and a walkable main strip — Dunedin is the perfect pre- or post-session hangout.

The Caladesi Ferry

The ferry crosses to Caladesi Island’s untouched beaches from inside the park — a fun add-on to any island day.

Causeway Watersports

Rent a kayak or paddleboard along the causeway and explore St. Joseph Sound’s calm, shallow flats.

The Pinellas Trail

The famous paved trail rolls right through Dunedin — bike from downtown to the causeway with the water beside you.

Honeymoon Island Photographer FAQ

Late afternoon into golden hour — ideally near low tide, when sandbars stripe the Gulf — timed so we catch the warm light before the park closes around sunset. The causeway just outside the gate handles any after-sunset glow.

We meet at the main beach parking area inside the park, then walk to the stretch that fits your session. Exact directions and timing come before session day.

Yes — everyone entering pays the standard per-vehicle state park entry fee, and relaxed portrait sessions like ours are welcome. We simply plan around park hours.

Soft neutrals and earthy coastal tones blend beautifully with the dunes and driftwood. A detailed style guide is included with every session.

Gulf storms usually clear fast, so we watch the radar together before deciding. If the weather won’t break, your session moves to the next good evening.
