One of America’s Best Beaches

Caladesi Island Portraits on an Untouched Gulf Beach

Caladesi Island is the reward for a little adventure — a boat-or-ferry-only state park where white sand runs for miles without a single building, and the only footprints at golden hour might be yours. It’s regularly ranked among the best beaches in the country, and photographs like it.

Amanda photographs family beach sessions, senior portraits, and engagements on Caladesi for those who want a truly private-feeling backdrop. Logistics take planning here — check availability early and we’ll map it out together.

Caladesi Island Photography Services

A Caladesi session is a small expedition — ferry or boat out, an empty beach waiting, and portraits that look like a deserted island because they practically are.

Family Beach Portraits

Kids remember the boat ride as much as the beach — Caladesi family sessions turn portrait day into a real island adventure, shells and all. Explore family photography.

Best Photo Spots on Caladesi Island

Every corner of Caladesi feels unclaimed — miles of sand, whispering dunes, and a hidden bayou. These are the island’s signature settings.

The Gulf Beach

Three miles of powder-white sand meeting clear Gulf shallows — wide open, building-free, and empty by mainland standards.

The Dunes & Sea Oats

Rolling dunes stitched with sea oats rise behind the beach — golden, wild, and made for wind-in-the-hair portraits.

The Mangrove Kayak Trail

A marked paddling trail winds through the island’s mangrove interior — glassy water and green tunnels on the bay side.

The Marina Boardwalk

Sailboats and cruisers tie up at the island marina — a weathered-wood, salt-life accent between the bayou and the beach.

Getting to Caladesi Island

  • The Caladesi Island ferry departs from inside Honeymoon Island State Park in Dunedin

  • Private boats can tie up at the island marina for a day fee
  • You can also walk in from the north end of Clearwater Beach along the sand
  • Ferry service ends in the late afternoon — evening light means boating or walking
  • Park entry fees apply at Honeymoon Island and again for the island itself

While You’re on Caladesi Island…

The Ferry Ride

The hourly ferry from Honeymoon Island is half the fun — dolphins often escort the crossing.

Shelling the Tide Line

Caladesi’s tide line is a shell collector’s dream — conchs, scallops, and sand dollars turn up daily.

Kayaking the Bayou

Rent a kayak on the mainland and paddle the island’s calm bayou — or bring your own and beach it.

Downtown Dunedin

Back on shore, Dunedin’s breweries and main-street cafes are minutes from the causeway.

Caladesi Island Photographer FAQ

Morning and midday sessions work best with the ferry schedule, when the beach is bright and nearly empty. True sunset sessions are possible by private boat or by walking up from Clearwater Beach.

Most families ride the ferry from Honeymoon Island; boaters can dock at the island marina. We coordinate timing together so nobody is watching the clock mid-session.

If you want a wild, empty beach with zero buildings in the background, there’s nothing else like it in Pinellas County. It’s the closest thing to a private island shoot on this coast.

Light, natural tones — whites, creams, and soft earth colors — match the untouched dunes beautifully. A full style guide comes with every booking.

Ferry crossings and photos both need decent weather, so we watch the forecast closely and stay flexible. A washout simply moves your island day to the next good date.
