Wondering where to take your family photos in Tampa? After hundreds of sessions on this coastline, I’ve learned that the best beaches in Tampa for family photos aren’t always the most famous ones – they’re the ones with soft sunset-light light, room for kids to run, and that gorgeous Gulf backdrop without the spring-break crowds. Here are my favorites, from a Tampa family photographer who has chased sunsets on every one of them.
Cypress Point Park – Tampa’s Hidden Gem
Tucked near Tampa International Airport, Cypress Point Park is my go-to for families who want a true beach session without crossing a bridge. It has a quiet, natural shoreline, sea oats and dunes for texture, and beautiful west-facing sunset views over Old Tampa Bay. It’s rarely crowded on weekday evenings, which makes it perfect for toddlers who need space to wander.
Ben T. Davis Beach – Classic Tampa Sunsets
Right on the Courtney Campbell Causeway, Ben T. Davis is Tampa’s classic city beach. Wide, sandy, and facing straight into the sunset, it’s an easy option for families coming from anywhere in Tampa – no long drive with hungry kids in the back seat.
Picnic Island Park & Davis Islands – Local Favorites
Picnic Island in Port Tampa has a laid-back, locals-only feel with driftwood, palms, and skyline views. Davis Islands offers a small beach near the seaplane basin with sailboats drifting by – a fun, unexpected backdrop for families who want something a little different.
Fort De Soto Park – Worth the Drive
If you’re willing to head toward St. Pete, Fort De Soto’s North Beach is one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in Florida – sugar-white sand, clear shallow lagoons for little ones to splash in, and unbeatable sunset light light. There’s a small bridge toll on the way in, and it’s every bit worth it.
St. Pete Beach & Pass-a-Grille
St. Pete Beach delivers that postcard-perfect Gulf look, and the historic Pass-a-Grille end is quieter with charming beach cottages nearby. Parking is paid, and afternoons get busy in season – I recommend the last 90 minutes before sunset on a weekday.
Honeymoon Island State Park – For the Adventurous
Up in Dunedin, Honeymoon Island gives you four miles of unspoiled shoreline, driftwood, and some of the most colorful sunsets on the Gulf Coast. Entry is currently $8 per vehicle, and park rules can change – I always confirm details when we plan your session.
