Old Florida, Unspoiled

Anna Maria Island Beach Portraits, Old-Florida Style

Anna Maria Island is the Gulf Coast the way it used to be — no high-rises, no crowds of concrete, just seven miles of soft white sand, sea oats, and pastel beach cottages. From the shallow sandbars at Bean Point to the whispering pines of Coquina Beach, every corner of this island photographs beautifully at sunset.

Amanda photographs relaxed, unposed family beach sessions, senior portraits, and engagement photos across Anna Maria Island year-round. Whether you’re vacationing on the island or local to Manatee County, it pays to check availability early — golden-hour dates book out well ahead.

Best Photo Spots on Anna Maria Island

Seven miles of island, three little beach towns, and no two stretches of sand alike. These are the Anna Maria Island locations that photograph beautifully.

Bean Point

The island’s famous north tip, where the Gulf meets Tampa Bay. Wide sandbars, shallow turquoise water, and the Sunshine Skyway on the horizon — Bean Point at sunset is pure magic.

Coquina Beach

A long, quiet stretch at the island’s south end, shaded by whispering Australian pines. The tree line adds a moody, windswept backdrop you won’t find on other Gulf beaches.

Manatee Public Beach

The heart of Holmes Beach — easy parking, wide sand, and reliable room to spread out at golden hour. A dependable meeting spot for bigger family groups coming from different rentals.

Historic Bridge Street

Bradenton Beach’s historic little main street ends at the sand — colorful shops, a wooden bayside pier, and beach access steps away for a fun two-look session.

Getting to Anna Maria Island

  • Two bridges reach the island — Manatee Avenue (SR 64) into Holmes Beach and Cortez Road (SR 684) into Bradenton Beach
  • About 20 minutes west of Bradenton and 90 minutes from Tampa
  • Free parking at Manatee Public Beach, Coquina Beach, and Bayfront Park — arrive early in season
  • The free island trolley runs daily from Coquina Beach up to Pine Avenue
  • Plan extra drive time for sunset sessions on weekends — the beach bridges back up

While You’re on Anna Maria Island…

Pine Avenue

Anna Maria’s charming main street — coffee, ice cream, and boutiques in restored cottages, an easy stroll from both the bay and the Gulf.

The Free Island Trolley

The free island trolley runs the length of Anna Maria Island every day — park once and hop between the beaches, Pine Avenue, and Bridge Street.

Bridge Street & Bradenton Beach

Browse the shops, grab a waterfront dinner, and watch the pelicans on the bayside pier while the sun drops over the Gulf.

Sunset Dolphin Cruises

Charters from the island’s bayside docks cruise the flats near Bean Point at sunset — dolphins, seabirds, and a whole new view of the island.

Anna Maria Island Photographer FAQ

The last hour before sunset brings soft, warm light and pastel skies over the Gulf — and Bean Point’s sandbars glow at low tide. Sunrise on the bay side is a beautiful, quieter alternative.

Most sessions meet at the Bean Point beach access on the island’s north end or at Coquina Beach to the south. You’ll get simple parking and meeting directions before your session so there’s no guesswork.

Soft neutrals, whites, and gentle pastels suit the island’s white sand and Old-Florida cottages beautifully. A detailed style guide is included with every session to make outfit planning easy.

Island rentals book out months ahead, and sunset session dates do too — four to six weeks of lead time is ideal in season. Last-minute openings happen, so it never hurts to ask.

Gulf storms tend to blow through fast, so we watch the radar together and make the call as your session approaches. If the weather won’t cooperate, your session simply moves to the next best evening.
